B Capital Group Hires Former Grab Fundraising Head

B Capital Group is a multi-stage international investment organisation that works with exceptional entrepreneurs. They invest in firms that are disrupting major traditional sectors and help founders develop quickly, penetrate new markets, and build extraordinary businesses.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, B Capital Group has engaged John Chua, the former Grab fundraising executive, to lead portfolio capital development in Asia. Chua will be in charge of supporting B Capital’s portfolio firms with equity fundraising, debt financing, and other hybrid solutions. These will also include funds raised through mergers and acquisitions (M&As) or joint ventures in the context of organic and inorganic growth (JVs).

Partner Allen Duan and Arijit Sengupta, located in New York and Singapore, respectively, lead B Capital’s portfolio development team. Prior to joining B Capital, Chua worked for Jeneration Group for ten months, where he supported SPAC strategies and examined Southeast Asian technology growth opportunities. Jeneration is a Chinese investment firm with over $3 billion in assets.

Chua previously worked as Grab’s head of fundraising for about two and a half years, where he was active in equity fundraising, strategic partnerships, M&A, and investments. During his stint at Grab, he was in charge of the company’s Series H fundraising, which raised $46 billion in equity capital.

Value Partners names new SEA Head

Value Partners was founded in 1993 and is one of Asia’s leading independent asset management organisations, providing world-class investment services and solutions to institutional and individual clients worldwide.

According to the official release, James Ong has been elected as Southeast Asia’s head and CEO of Singapore by Asian asset management business Value Partners Group. In his new post, Ong will be responsible for the institutional business in Southeast Asia, collaborating with Wallace Tsang, Value Partner’s group of intermediary businesses, to grow the firm’s intermediary business in the area.

Prior to this, Ong worked at State Street Global Advisors as a managing director and Southeast Asia head, where he was in charge of the company’s institutional and intermediary operations in the region. Client Director at HSBC Asset Management and director at UOB Asset Management were among his previous positions.
