ICAEW Appoints Elaine Hong as Regional Director for China and South-East Asia

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), a professional membership organisation of accountants and finance professionals, has appointed Elaine Hong as its Regional Director for China and South-East Asia, effective 21 October 2021. In her new role, Elaine will lead ICAEW’s vision and strategic initiatives in the region to deliver member and student value, as well as manage stakeholder engagement.

With over two decades of experience with a strong skill set spanning across business advisory and development, brand management and accounting, Elaine will be responsible for formalising strategic, tactical, and operational plans that successfully progresses ICAEW’s corporate vision, strategies, and objectives in China and South-East Asia. 

Previously, Elaine established the ICAEW office in Kuala Lumpur as its inaugural Head of Malaysia more than a decade ago. She remains a Fellow of the ICAEW and is an active member of the ACA alumni out in Malaysia including having held office holder positions in both the ICAEW Malaysia City Group and its successor, the ICAEW Members Society, Malaysian Branch.

She has also held various roles in the industry for more than two decades, starting her career at one of the Big Four accounting Firms PwC before joining Sunway TES as its Assistant Director for professional accountancy programmes and serving as the Executive Director of Corporate Office at BDO Malaysia where she led strategic planning and change management including policy developments for ASEAN regional operations and was responsible for corporate branding direction in Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Outside of work, Elaine has also served as an Industry Advisory Board member of the Nottingham University Business School Malaysia Campus, and for the Business and Accountancy programmes for the INTI Education Group. She was also a representative on Malaysia’s TalentCorp Accounting Sectoral Working Group and was recently appointed to the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) ‘Thought Leadership’ working committee.
