Discover how this transformative initiative is attracting top talent, developing global perspectives, and positioning Singapore as a premier hub for accountancy professionals.

The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) has set a new benchmark for the professional services sector by unveiling the pioneering ISCA Global Talent Programme. This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize the accountancy talent pipeline, solidify Singapore’s status as a thriving accountancy hub, and dispel misconceptions surrounding the field.

The ISCA Global Talent Programme stands out as the first-of-its-kind in Singapore’s professional services arena. It endeavors to offer undergraduates from all disciplines, irrespective of their origin, an immersive experience that provides fresh perspectives on Singapore and abundant career opportunities within the nation’s flourishing accountancy sector. ISCA has earmarked a substantial $1 million fund to support students’ expenses during the week-long programme.

By participating in this transformative venture, students will not only explore Singapore’s dynamic business environment but also develop a global outlook and enhance their leadership, communication, and project management skills. The programme seeks to unveil the countless prospects available within the accountancy sector, particularly focusing on high-growth areas within Singapore’s vibrant business ecosystem. Through visits to companies, accounting firms, and government agencies, students will engage and network with industry stakeholders and seasoned professionals. Furthermore, they will acquire technical skills by collaborating with mentors and peers to tackle real-world problem statements relevant to the accountancy sector.

Mr. Teo Ser Luck, President of ISCA, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The ISCA Global Talent Programme presents a unique opportunity for undergraduates to immerse themselves in various facets of the accountancy profession. This initiative encourages cross-cultural exchanges, knowledge sharing, and networking. Through this programme, ISCA aims to contribute to the development of a diverse and inclusive talent pool, further establishing Singapore as a premier accountancy and business hub.”

Joining forces with ISCA, Mr. Arthur Lang, Group Chief Financial Officer of Singtel, applauded the initiative, saying, “Singtel is thrilled to be part of ISCA’s inaugural Global Talent Programme, which nurtures aspiring accountants. The modern finance function has transitioned from a traditionally custodial, statutory, and regulatory nature to a forward-looking role that adapts to industry-specific challenges and macroeconomic nuances. Today’s finance department serves as the champion for enterprise value creation, requiring a multi-disciplinary approach encompassing strategic thinking, data analytics, corporate finance, and an in-depth understanding of capital markets and stakeholder management. Given our substantial regional footprint, Singtel is committed to developing ‘regional-ready’ professionals who can easily assimilate into different environments, a critical attribute in our interconnected world.”

Upon completion of the ISCA Global Talent Programme, students will remain connected with ISCA as alumni of the programme. ISCA will engage them as ambassadors, facilitating knowledge sharing, mentorship, and guidance for future participants. This sustainable approach aims to foster continuous growth and improvement of the programme over time.

To participate in the Global Talent Programme, students must submit a written application, and shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview process. Successful applicants will be inducted into the programme as Global Talent Trainees. International trainees will have the opportunity to join their counterparts in Singapore, where they will live, learn, and work together, fostering a collaborative and immersive experience.

Over the next three to five years, ISCA plans to select up to 300 candidates for the programme. Remarkably, the initiative comes at no cost to participants, as all expenses related to the programme will be borne by ISCA.

With the launch of the ISCA Global Talent Programme, Singapore’s accountancy sector is poised to experience a transformative shift, attracting top talent, fostering innovation, and reinforcing the city-state’s reputation as a global leader in the field.
