2 mins read

In the heart of Shanghai, The Westin Bund Centre played host to the DigitalCFO Asia Shanghai Forum 2024 on 7 November. Themed “CFO Reinvented: Harnessing Technology to Drive Business Growth,” the forum gathered a dynamic network of finance leaders and professionals, united by a common interest in advancing the role of finance through technology. Sponsored by xSuite, the event featured a robust agenda of keynote addresses, fireside chats, and panel discussions, each spotlighting technology’s transformative power in shaping finance for the future.

Starting at 9 AM, DigitalCFO Asia graciously welcomed attendees to a morning of networking over refreshments. The vibrant start provided a chance for finance professionals to connect, share experiences, and set the tone for the day’s agenda—one rooted in knowledge-sharing and forward-thinking discussions about the evolving landscape of finance.

The forum opened with an inspiring keynote session that underscored how technological innovation is a powerful engine for business growth. This foundational talk introduced the day’s main theme, preparing the audience for a series of in-depth discussions on the role of technology in shaping future finance functions and enabling CFOs to navigate today’s rapidly changing digital environment.

The Evolving Role of China’s CFOs and Transforming Finance Through AI-Powered Automation

In the first fireside chat, John Zheng, Chief Financial & Information Officer at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance China, and Stéphane Monsallier, Founder and CEO of System-in-Motion delved into the shifting priorities of China’s CFOs. They explored how CFOs are adapting to the demands of digital transformation and strategy setting as they look ahead to 2025. Attendees gained insights into the strategic focus areas that will shape finance in the years to come, equipping them with the knowledge needed to drive their own organisations forward.

Tony Cheung, Global VP of Enterprise Accounts & Strategic Alliances at xSuite, took the stage next to discuss the impact of intelligent finance automation on modern businesses. Highlighting how AI-driven solutions can streamline processes, enhance productivity, and meet today’s dynamic business needs, Tony’s session was a deep dive into the practical applications of automation, enabling finance teams to achieve efficiency and innovation simultaneously.

Championing Change in Finance Leadership and Empowering Female Leaders in Finance

Following the morning’s coffee break, Jonas Eberle, Director of Finance & Treasury at Würth (China), joined a discussion moderated by Benjamin Chang, Partner at TRSD Capital Inc., focused on strategic leadership in finance. Emphasising the necessity for CFOs to lead transformation within their organisations, the session explored why finance leaders must act as change agents, steering their teams through digital transformation and fostering a culture of agility and competitiveness.

Another highlight of the event was the fireside chat spotlighting the unique perspectives of female leaders in finance. Elsia Yin, China Finance Head at BIPO, and Evgenia Kuchuk, Head of Finance at Alfa Laval, shared their leadership journeys, moderated by Victoria Guo, Head of Shanghai at SEC Newgate Greater China. This discussion brought to light the vital role that finance executives play in shaping corporate culture, driving transformation, and championing diversity within their organisations.

Generative AI and the Future of Finance

Closing out the day’s discussions, Elyn Chen, Global CFO of PatSnap, joined Stéphane Monsallier once again to discuss the transformative potential of generative AI in the finance sector. Together, they unpacked how this groundbreaking technology can redefine the finance function, positioning CFOs and their teams at the forefront of innovation. The session offered a glimpse into the future of finance, where technology and strategic insight intersect to open up new possibilities for growth and impact.
