Singapore, February 23, 2025 — As agentic commerce picks up speed in China, Alipay today revealed that its AI Pay payment system, which uses AI agents to facilitate safe and easy payments, has processed more than 120 million transactions in the last week. Alipay AI Pay was introduced in 2025 and has since grown into a number of use cases, such as AI agents in applications and small programs for physical stores like Luckin Coffee and AI smart glasses like Rokid.
In order to allow developers to incorporate AI payment into the AI agents they create on Rokid’s Lingzhu platform, Alipay partnered with Rokid in December 2025. According to the MCP paradigm, developers can use plain language instead of complicated coding to access and implement AI payment capabilities on smart devices, giving customers a convenient in-agent payment experience.
Alipay and its partners, notably Alibaba’s user-facing AI app Qwen App and Taobao Instant Commerce, introduced the Agentic Commerce Trust Protocol in January 2026. The first platform to implement the Protocol was Qwen App, which linked to Alipay AI Pay and Taobao Instant Commerce. To order meals and drinks straight from the Qwen App, users may just chat with the AI.
Chinese customers are forming new expectations for smart and easy payment methods as digital services advance in this AI era.
Alipay has been pushing the limits of payment innovation throughout the years. In 2024, Alipay introduced Alipay Tap!, a cutting-edge contactless payment and consumer interaction technology, in addition to its AI payment service. There is no need to launch an app, scan, or navigate through several menus; users just need to unlock their phone and tap it against a merchant’s payment terminal or the Alipay Tap! tag.
Over 100 million payments were made per day using the Alipay Tap! service as of January 2026. This milestone illustrates how tap-based payments and access to daily services have grown quickly in China. People with visual impairments, older adults, and younger users have all embraced this streamlined experience. International tourists can also use the service, linking their foreign debit or credit cards to Alipay so they can make payments in China like locals would.
By collaborating with businesses like Xiaomi, Rokid, and RayNeo, Alipay is also bringing Tap! to wearables. With AI smart glasses, users may confirm and finish transactions hands-free by looking at a blue Alipay Tap! ring and using voice commands like “help me pay” to initiate payment.
More than 200 million customers have used Alipay Tap! since its inception for a variety of services, including as ordering takeaway, paying bills, unlocking shared bikes, picking up packages and receiving immediate tax returns.
